It's supposed to be the biggest storm of the decade ... it's certainly a doozie! The winds have been blowing the snow horizontally and at great speed all day. The drifts by the house are at least a couple of feet deep, and the total accumulation is supposed to reach 1+ feet (30-45 cm) by tomorrow morning ... and I believe it will.
The critters are managing fine ... they all have lots of hay to eat, and the pigs, rabbits, and guinea pigs have lots to burrow into, too. The donkeys (Oliver, Lucy & Sylvia) and ox (Arthur) are probably the least happy, as their end of the barn gets a little more wind, so they end up with a frosting of snow on their backs and a few drifts in their run-in. I will have to extend the lean-to outside their run-in for next winter to prevent the blowing in. It takes a year or two to figure out how a barn winters and this is only our second winter with this old barn ...
Fortunately, if one is out of the wind, the temperatures are relatively mild (about -10 C). Will be interested to see how long it takes foreveryone to dig out ... everything was cancelled/closed today, and I doubt there will be school tomorrow.
Hope everyone out there is managing!
