Don't know if you have VV where you live, but it is a chain of thrift stores that donates part of its proceeds to charity. I am a confirmed "treasure hunter" and pop in periodically to see what I can find!
One two recent jaunts, I found these two piggy things - a decorative trivet (now hangs on my wall) and a bowl that I use for my breakfast cereal - for about $3 each!
