The pond is an integral part of the sanctuary, providing year-round water for drinking and wallowing:
This double-ended barn offers shade and permanent frost-free water:
The sanctuary features about 36 of these Port-a-Hut shelters in two sizes. The Eiswalds have added a wooden base for greater stability and longevity. The wooden cross-piece on the door of the lower photo keeps the big farfm pigs out of the smaller shelters which are intended for the pot-bellies. The shelters are bedded with straw (which the pigs keep clean), and one even has a satellite dish!
Fencing is of several typs, tho Carol admits they have not yet found the perfect one. Heavy gauge, wrapped knot farm fence in 4x4-inch mesh comes the closest thus far. Other types include 4x4-in welded goat panels, lighter gauge farm fencing. Gates are all 2-in diameter heavyweight tubing, with heavy-duty deadbolt latches that open either way. Even the most useful of gates is made beautiful at the Tusk & Bristle (lower pic).
One of my favourite features is this raised viewing deck - the perfect place to reture with a tall glass of lemonade after a hard day's work; altho Carol says the pigs are prone to moving the platform, off its footings!
